Walton On Trent C of E Primary and Nursery School
Living | Learning | Laughing
At Walton pupil leadership is very valuable to us. We believe that our children should be fully involved in the leadership of the school and all have a voice. Pupil leadership provides children with the opportunities and support to play a role in making the decisions that affect them and the school. Pupil leadership is important as it allows students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships, defining identities and achieve tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity for children to learn to identify and show effective communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership will promote the schools vison and Values throughout.
Our now pupil leadership focus will incorporate the Nolan Principles of:
Selflessness – consider the needs and wishes of others
Integrity – having strong moral principles
Objectivity – being fair and showing no discrimination
Accountability – taking responsibility
Openness – being approachable and working with others
Honesty – being truthful
Leadership – treating others with respect
We are proposing a ‘School Parliament’ this will also support in learning about democracy and British Values, as some roles will require applications and votes.
We will decide upon a Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister.
We will also have members responsible for eco-issues, wellbeing, play leaders and collective worship team. When the Parliament meet, the children will represent the views of their peers, talk about life in school, talk about learning, what is going well and about things we would like to improve.
