Thank you for every one who attended the Phonic Screening Information event.

If you were unable to attend please see the PowerPoint below for your information.

We have also listed below some resources you can use at home to support your child.

There is no need to pay or subscribe to any of the websites. Please use the free resource available.

We have also included some ideas that are not digital, to help with screen time.

Choose any of the free phonics games and have fun. Practising all phases 2-5 will help your children embed their decoding skills.

Non Digital Ideas

Post it notes – Can they write labels for different items in the house, can they give the item a silly name.

Encourage your child to draw sound buttons to segment the word.

A dot under a phoneme (one letter sound)

A line under a digraph (two letter that make a complete new sound e.g. ‘ai’ in rain)

A line under a trigraph (three or more letters that make a completely new sound  e.g. ‘igh’ in light)

A sweeping line for split digraphs (a digraph with a letter in the middle ‘i-e’ in like)

 

Flashcards

Write word on paper – how many words can they read in 1minute, can they beat their score.

 

Snap or pairs

Write words of separate pieces of paper can they match words with the same digraphs or trigraphs.

 

Pass the balloon

Write words on a balloon – each time you pass the balloon them must read a word before passing it back.

 

Find and seek

Write a list of words, can they find them in their favourite book.
