A little about our governors

Dr Cindy Fear                Term of office 30.11.2015 - 29.11.2019

I've been a parent governor for five years at Walton, serving as the SEN/D governor for the last three of those years.  I enjoy working with the dedicated team at Walton, and as a governor I want to do what I can to help all our children reach their full potential and flourish while they are at our school.

Mr Charles Haycock       Term of office 15.03.2017 - 14.03.2021

I am a parent governor for the school. I have seen the school go from strength to strength whilst still maintaining its special core value of teaching each child to reach their own potential.  The governing body is part of the wider team within the school and is there to ensure the school maintains its direction and to assist the staff in their roles.

Miss Jessica Hickman      Term of office 20.03.2017 - 19.03.2021

I am a foundation governor at Walton.  I am currently a completing a teacher training course to become a history teacher at the National Forest Teaching School and am starting my NQT year in August.  I am quite new to the governing body but I am excited to bring my experience and knowledge of teaching to the school.

Mrs Karen Hickman           Term of office 01.09.2015 - 31.08.2019

I am the chair of governors at Walton and am also a senior sister for the NHS.  I have two children one of whom is just about to qualify as a teacher and one is in sixth form at John Taylor High School.  I am committed to ensuring that Walton school provides a safe and happy place for children to maximise their learning and prepare them for later life.

Mr Jameel Mann                 Term of office 22.02.17 - 21.02.2021

I am delighted to be appointed as a governor at the school and am looking forward to the rewarding challenges ahead.  Having recently moved to the village, I am committed to helping the school maintain an environment in which pupils can fulfil their potential and have many opportunities to progress their individual talents.

Mr James Gardner              Term of office 20.03.2017 - 19.03.2021

I am the Director of Key stage 4 and designated safeguarding lead at the JCB Academy. I'm also the Director of personal development and physical education. I have received LAC training, CEOP Ambassador, the SENCO specialist certificate, Level 4 Multi Agency Safeguard training. I have  12 years in the profession developed through teaching of Physical Education, being  Head of house for 6 years before becoming an assistant head teacher. Teaching leaders degree, achieving high commendation. Two research projects winning National awards with EEF and ESLL leadership awards.

Mrs Samantha Toft             Term of office 21.10.2016 - 20.10.2020

I am a teacher representative on the governing body.  I have worked at Walton for 6 years and I have witnessed many changes as the school has grown from strength to strength.  I see it as a huge privilege to teach and work in a school with such a hardworking team.  I am committed to supporting the school as it embraces the many rewards and challenges that may come in educating our children for life.

Miss Jayne Harris                 Term of office 29.06.2015 - 28.06.2019

I've been a co-opted Governor at Walton School for around 4 years now.  I've seen the school go through challenges and changes during that time, and its fantastic to be part of exciting developments we've had over the last 2 years.  The school is thriving, and our school community is a positive and supportive one.

Walton is a special place - it's the school I chose for my children to attend,  and I feel very lucky to be a member of staff, as well as a Governor.  I grew up in the village, and still live nearby, so I have a real interest in the school's continuing success.

I chose to join the Governing Body, after many years of working in Education.  I feel it's important to understand how things work "behind the scenes", and to understand why and how decisions are made.

Education is a very challenging field to be part of, and we constantly strive to balance the rigours of targets and outcomes, with meeting the needs of our children and their families.  Our ethos of Living, Learning, Laughing remains at the heart of the decisions that we make as a Governing body.

Mrs Dawn Charles                 Term of office 18.10.2017 - 17.10.2021

I'm delighted to be able to serve Walton School as a Foundation Governor, particularly supporting the school in the area of RE and it's Christian Ethos.  I love the school and want to support it in any way I can.  I am one of three  people who lead The Community Church, a Christian church that meets in Stapenhill and I'm also Vice Chair of The Church in Burton, which connects church leaders from all denominations together.  My background is in journalism but by far my most important role now is that of a mum - to my teenage step daughter and my son who is at Walton and he loves it!

Mrs Gemma Anderson            Term of office 10.10.2017 - 09.10.2021

Newly appointed.  Awaiting upload.
