Owls - Year 3 and Year 4

Spring 1

Happy New Year!

 

This project teaches children about life in Britain after the Roman withdrawal. Children will learn about Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasions up to the Norman conquest

 

Curriculum coverage:

Class text - The King who threw away his throne by Terry Deary

English - Diary entry and Kenning poetry

Maths Year 3 - Multiplication and Division, Money, Statistics, Length, Fractions

Maths Year 4 - Multiplication and Division, Measure - Area, Fractions, Decimals

Science – Y3 rocks, Y4 Electricity

History – Anglo Saxons

Geography – Using maps to track invasions

RE – Good Friday

Art – Weaving

PE – Real PE Cognitive Year 3

Computing – 4.1 Coding

PSHCE – 7-8 Dreams and Goals (Jigsaw)

 

Reading at home

Children need to be reading at least 5 times a week for 20 minutes. This should be recorded in their reading diaries. This will aid children in receiving the Rainbow Reader awards and their learning within school.

 

Spellings

Children will be given new spellings every Monday and they will be tested on these every Friday. The list of the spellings are attached below.

Each weeks spellings are uploaded onto Spelling Shed on Fridays.

Children should be practicing their spellings at least 3 times a week, accessing Spelling Shed to support them. 

 

Times tables

Children should be practicing their times tables at least 3 times a week using TTRockstars. 

 

PE

Owls PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. 

On Wednesdays, please could children come to school in their PE kits.

On Thursdays, Children will need to bring their swimming kits into school in a labelled bag. 

 

Other

Please could you ensure that all of your children's belongings are clearly labelled.

Children should have a water bottle and their reading book and record in school with them everyday.

The children's Log ins can be found in the front of their reading diaries.

Autumn 2

Grab your wetsuit. We’re going deep into an underwater world of incredible coral and mysterious sea creatures. Head to your local aquarium and learn about life in the ocean. Can you pick a favourite fish, plant or animal? What do real divers get up to below the surface? Time to go a little deeper into our seas.

Science - Forces and Magnets (Y3) Sound (Y4)

History - 19th century ocean exploration

Geography - Seas and oceans of the world, The Great Barrier Reef, Environmental Issues

Art/DT - Sketching, watercolors

Computing - Hardware investigations, Logo's

RE - What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?

PE - Swimming, Real Dance

PSHCE - Celebrating difference 

 

Forest school.

Owls will have Forest School on Monday afternoons. Please could the children come into school in their school uniform. They will need to bring their forest school kit in a bag with everything labelled.
