Welcome back, Year 6! I can't believe how grown up you're getting. I can't wait to get our teeth into our first exciting topic and we have a full time table full of exciting learning.
This half term, we have a Geography and Science-based topic about the polar regions!
Our class text is Nevermoor.
We will be covering a range of learning including:
Writing: Newspaper article and Adventure Story
Reading: Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval, Summarising
Spelling: '-fer' words, Use of the hyphen, 'ei' after 'c', 'ough' words, long 'i' sound spelt 'y' e.g. rhyme. (We will also continue to focus on learning the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Statutory Spellings which can be found on this page).
Punctuation and Grammar: Present Perfect Tense, Fact and Opinion, Inverted Commas for direct speech, Modal verbs
Geography: The Polar Regions (Arctic and Antarctic)
Science: Animals, Adaptation, Natural Resources
Art/DT: Inuit art and Polar Landscapes
PE: Real PE - Creative
PSHE: Being me!
PE lessons will continue to be on Thursday and Friday afternoons.
We are continuing with Forest School on Tuesday afternoons this half term.

Forest School is every Tuesday afternoon. Please could every child bring in sensible forest clothes in a named bag. They will get changed into their forest school clothes after lunch.
Our PE days are on a Thursday and Friday. On these days, children should come into school wearing their PE kit. There is no need for them to bring any normal school uniform on these days. Please ensure all belongings are clearly named. All PE lessons will be outside so please provide a plain, warm tracksuit so that your child doesn't get too cold.
All children should be practising their weekly spellings at home on SpellingShed (if they need their password, please talk to Mrs Stewart).

Please ensure that long hair is tied back in a ponytail.
