Transitions

All staff at Walton understand that a successful transition is important. We always welcome visits from prospective parents and pupils, and provide a show around, so that any questions can be answered. Prior to joining Nursery or Reception we provide a number of introductory sessions so that the children get to know each other and members of staff that will be working with them the following year.

When a new child starts at our school we liaise with the previous school or setting prior to the start date where possible. We also receive their previous pupil files that contain information regarding their achievement. This is added to throughout their time at our school and passed on to their next school setting.

Regarding transition to secondary school, the children are normally approached by their chosen school to attend an open evening followed by a day session. We may also have a visit from their prospective school to hold a taster session with their class.

If a pupil needs additional support, other strategies, for example, extra visits or a photo book can be arranged. Where a child has severe and/or complex needs transition support will be provided. Please see the SEND Policy for more information.
