How is the curriculum matched

We recognise that children make progress at different rates and have different ways in which they learn best. All class teachers at Walton take this into account by looking carefully at how they organise and plan their lessons, classroom, books and materials/resources they provide the children with. A number of options are considered and they choose the most appropriate way to help each child access the curriculum from a range of activities, providing a ‘differentiated curriculum’. Our approach very much identifies that the teaching will be adapted to the child rather than the child adapting to the teaching.

If a child has special educational need, a specific Teaching Assistant (TA) may be allocated to support the child one-to-one or in a small group, interventions may be put in place or specialist equipment may be provided.
